Charleston, SC -

The American Heart Association’s (AHA) 2025 Lowcountry Heart Walk once again brought the community together to raise significant funds in support of critical cardiovascular research and lifesaving science. Driven by their passion for “Building Up” their community, Choate Construction employee-owners raised more than $152,323 for the AHA through the Hard Hats with Heart and Heart Walk fundraising events.

“The energy, passion, and commitment at this year’s AHA Lowcountry Heart Walk were an inspiring sight to see. Seeing our community come together, walking side by side in support of heart health and life-saving research was a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish when we unite for a cause that touches so many lives,” says Matt Brewer, President & CEO of Choate. “We are honored to have served as a fundraising sponsor for this year’s event, supporting the AHA’s ongoing mission to research, educate, and advocate for a healthier future.”

As part of Choate’s commitment to championing heart health in the construction industry, Choate hosted the Hard Hats with Heart fundraising event in 2024, which raised $59,000 to support the AHA’s mission. The event brought together industry leaders, partners, and Choate employee-owners for an evening of awareness and giving, reinforcing the importance of prioritizing heart health in

According to the AHA, one in 25 construction workers has cardiovascular disease. Additionally, nearly half of all construction workers do not get enough exercise, one in four is obese, one in four uses tobacco, and one in 25 has diabetes – all of which contribute to the risk of heart disease or stroke.

“Heart health affects us all—our families, our friends, and our colleagues,” said Brewer. “The research, education, and support made possible by the AHA saves lives every day, and I’m incredibly proud of our Lowcountry community and Choate fundraising team for stepping up year after year in support of this critical cause.”
